Every year, millions of tonnes of man-made materials enter the environment. This includes - wear and tear on fibres and textiles; losses in agriculture, aquaculture and fisheries as well as plastic waste in the soil, rivers, lakes and oceans due to a lack of proper waste management in some markets. One of the European Union's initiatives to tackle this problem is the Single Use Plastic Directive (SUPD). This directive also applies to a number of products containing fibres and is therefore of great importance to the cellulose fibre sector. In addition, microfibres make up a significant proportion of microplastics and have been the focus of attention in recent years. How all this can create market opportunities for man-made cellulosic fibres now and in the future will be discussed by the experts and answered during the panel discussion following the sessions. |

Year after year nova-Institute grants the “Cellulose Fibre Innovation of the Year” award in the context of the “Cellulose Fibres Conference”, that will take place in Cologne on 13 and 14 March 2024. In advance, the conferences advisory board nominated six remarkable products, including cellulose fibres from textile waste and straw, a novel technology for dying cellulose-based textiles and a construction panel as well as geotextiles. The innovations will be presented by the companies on the first day of the event. All conference participants can vote for one of the six nominees and the top three winners will be honoured with the “Cellulose Fibre Innovation of the Year” award.
